Women's Falcon Bicycle Club T-Shirt
Falcon Bicycle Club
In 1895, a daring group of lady cyclists, known as the Falcon Bicycle Club, obtained a retired horse car from Mayor Sutro. They perched what would become their new clubhouse in the sand dunes of Carville on the outskirts of Golden Gate Park. Many joyous times were had at the F.B.C. clubhouse as cycling was very in vogue during the late 1800’s and the clubhouse soirées attracted many bohemians, artists and some of the most notable figures of the day.
Cycling itself brought a freedom of movement and a newly found sense of independence to the wheelwomen of this era. Sometimes abandoning corsets and petticoats for controversial bloomers, these lady cyclists had a passion for fun and adventure.
