In the 1930’s, capacity crowds flocked to Neptune Beach Speedway in Alameda, California, to watch the new thrilling sport of Midget Auto Racing. Dare devil drivers raced over an oval course measuring one-fifth of a mile which brought the excitement of the race right into the laps of the spectators. The little speedsters spent half their time skidding around turns, but went as fast as 60mph on the straightaways. Drivers needed to be skilled and daring to win.
